About Us

Ocean Tide Therapy

Ocean Tide Therapy knows that neurodiversity is beautiful. Our approach to neuroaffirmative occupational therapy embraces neurodiversity, viewing neurological differences not as deficits to be "fixed," but as variations in human experience that should be celebrated. It focuses on affirming neurodivergent identities, empowering individuals to self-advocate, and creating a safe, supportive environment for them to thrive.

Key Principles:

  • Neurodiversity as a strength: Neuroaffirmative therapy recognizes that neurodivergence is a normal part of human diversity, not something that needs to be changed or "cured".
  • Autonomy and self-determination: Clients are considered experts on their own experiences, and therapy is tailored to their individual needs and preferences.
  • Affirmation of identity: Therapists validate and support clients' neurodivergent identities, helping them integrate this aspect of themselves into their lives.
  • Strengths-based approach: Therapy focuses on building upon clients' unique strengths and talents rather than dwelling on perceived weaknesses.
  • Contextualization: The therapist acknowledges the impact of societal expectations and norms on neurodivergent individuals, recognizing how these can create barriers and challenges.
  • Sensory awareness: Therapists are mindful of sensory processing differences and provide accommodations to create a more comfortable and supportive environment.
